Is this car desirable for some reason that I cannot fathom?

the Badge and the privilege of saying you own a Lancia.
Just don’t let anyone see it cause they won’t know what it is.

I’m sure there’s a reason other than being pristine, Italian, and looking like the mating of a DeLorean and a Fiat X 1/9, but I don’t know enough about them to say.

You might end up learning Italian... It'll probably start with just the swear words, but eventually you're gonna need a part, and AutoZone/PepBoys/O'rly's blank stares won't be of much help.

Tiny mid- en gined Italian.
Lurcie(?) on Oppo has one, they can probably fill you in.

Pristine
is not an adjective I would apply to this specimen. Condition = Good-to-Very-Good, possibly.

LOL.

Or help me fill in a hole where this car would be buried...

Yes it is.
I want it.

Relatively-pristine-for-something-Italian was too long.

H igher compression pistons and hot cams? N eato! I bet that’s fun to drive.

I’d buy it just for the way the trunk/engine cover opens.

Then it’s yours.

But it’s not even
relatively
pristine. It’s rather worn and dirty and leaky-looking.

Mid-engine, too. Nice trunk carpeting, but rather tattered overall.

I confess to a laziness in looking only at the picture in your post. Which, particularly in respect to the black plastic, is not all that worn/dirty/etc.

“ Is this car desirable for some reason that I cannot fathom?”
Yes - for dem wheels. Those are Radwoo d stardom, right there.

Always wanted one. Like the X1/9, but with the lampredi twin cam from the Fiat 124.

Yes. 2 spoke wheels.
![]() 07/17/2018 at 15:40 |

It might be fun to take for a drive on a day that it would start.
![]() 07/17/2018 at 15:42 |

I will take you for your word on that.

So far outside my wheelhouse...

You are the second person today to mystify me by saying that.

Haha they are different and therefore cool.
Really though, this car looks awesome. Yes, I am sure it will be unreliable, but for some of us (me) unreliability is fun.
Drive 500 miles in a Honda Civic? YAWN.
Drive 500 miles in an old Italian car ? Hero.
Not everyone’s cup of tea, for sure, but it can be damn satisfying for us masochists enthusiasts .

It’s a great looking, unusual car. What more do you want? Unreliable if you don’t take care of it, but this one looks like it has been , so as lo ng as you keep after it, it should give someone with taste plenty of fun times.

It’s good. I’m sort of that way with VWs.

Then I am tasteless.

I guess so, sadly. Start your rehabilitation by finding some old Pl a yboy magazines from the 60's.

Nope; not there.

By the standards of 1970s Italian sports cars, the fact that it is not currently >50% iron oxide means “absolutely pristine, like-new.”
Inci
dentally
I have
always wanted one of these cars lots and lots
, from the first day I saw one down at Earl Brown’s VW dealership in Clearwater, Florida.

It’s funny how when you gauge the reactions to something you write, you discover how much you didn’t actually say.
My issue with the Lancia on BaT was really that I thought it was not remarkable in its condition. I’d love to wring it out though. And I’m not sure why people love to pick on Italian cars so much because it seems like British cars are much worse. #Lucaswiring

It’s good. I was just trolling about an unusual, atypical car. Also, I didn’t like the condition especially. Stirring the pot. I guess it worked.

I meant to tag Lanciere, my paste worked out incorrectly. They’re definitely interesting cars. Not something I personally would hunt down. I tend toward Alfa for my Italian headaches.
My MGB was a-ok electrically. I hated the Z-S carb on that thing, though!

Because mid engined cars are fun. That’s the appeal for me. And having the roof off without compromising too much structural rigidity is also fun.
But I wouldn't buy it, I'd get an MR2. I have an MR2.
